The Total Mobility Scheme aims to assist people with impairments to enhance their community participation by accessing appropriate transport.
This assistance is provided to eligible, registered people in the form of subsidised door-to-door transport services wherever scheme transport providers (generally taxis) operate.
The eligibility assessment identifies whether a person has an impairment that qualifies them for the Total Mobility Scheme. That is, an impairment that prevents them undertaking any one or more of the following components of a journey unaccompanied, on a bus, train or ferry, in a safe and dignified manner:

From July 2007 to June 2008, approx 426,000 taxi journeys were facilitated at a cost of approx $3.1 million
.The Total Mobility Working Group is a group facilitated by ARTA with the aim of monitoring and developing the Total Mobility scheme in the Auckland region. The group membership includes representatives of ARTA, Total Mobility assessment agencies and Total Mobility transport operators. The working group is currently focused on the local implementation of Land Transport New

The Transport Disability Advisory Group (TDAG)
The Transport Disability Advisory Group (TDAG) is a regional group set up by ARTA in early 2008. The group members include representatives of ARTA, contracted public transport operators, disability organisations and all territorial authorities (city, district and regional councils) in the Auckland region. The vision of the group is to see to the provision of accessible, affordable, integrated, safe, responsive and sustainable public land transport services for disabled people in the Auckland region. Meetings are held on the last Thursday of February, June and October. Transport disability issues can be raised by contacting ARTA via the MAXX Contact Centre on (09) 366 6400 or emailing artaenquiry@arta.co.nz. Issues regarding the Total Mobility Scheme will first be directed to the Total Mobility Working Group and, if required, escalated to the Transport Disability Advisory Group.
