Planning your trip on public transport just got easier. Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) has teamed up with Google Transit to enable train passengers to access public transport information and directions using the Google Maps feature.
Aucklanders using buses have been able to plan their trips using Google Transit since December last year and ferry services are also expected to be available through the online facility soon.
ARTA’s General Manager, Customer Services, Mark Lambert says, “People searching for directions in Auckland on Google Transit will now have the extra option to view train services as well as buses. This is another step in ARTA’s drive to make planning public transport journeys easier and more accessible for our customers.
“The service provides a link through to the MAXX website (maxx.co.nz) where people can find out more details about fares and schedules.
“In areas where transit data is available, public transit directions appear as an addition to driving directions. Bus stop and train stations appear on Google Maps at http://maps.google.co.nz, offering people more choice in respect of their transport options.
“Google is an extremely well respected and trusted organisation and a source of information for people the World over, so to partner with them and provide this service for our customers makes good sense.” said Mr Lambert.
Google Transit is available in more than 440 cities in 35 countries around the world.
