Get the wheels in motion – Bike Wise to Work
18 Mar 2010

Get into gear for the final weeks of BikeWise to Work, set to end on Friday 9 April. Participants have another three weeks so make it a sprint finish by cycling to work.

The Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) in partnership with BikeWise, launched the initiative in January to support Aucklanders in the quest to get fit on the way to work.  At no cost to you or the environment, BikeWise to Work is an active transport programme that is aimed at those who are new to cycling or who don’t currently cycle to work.

Peter Clark, ARTA’s General Manager of Strategy and Planning, who regularly cycles to work, says, “BikeWise to Work is a regional initiative aimed at increasing cycling among adults and promoting cycle safety awareness.

“I’ve found that cycling to work has improved my fitness levels and helps make me feel energised and alert for the day. It also enables you to save money and is good for the environment.  By taking up the BikeWise to Work challenge you will find there are lots of ways to make cycling work for you.

“To take part in the BikeWise to Work Challenge, participants need to register at www.bikewisetowork.co.nz and complete and log at least 10 trips to work before the campaign ends.  Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a local cycle map to help you plan your route.

“To help you on your way, you’ll receive a series of weekly emails with lots of handy hints and advice to keep you on the right path.  Trips can be logged on the website to help you monitor your progress and for each trip logged you will be rewarded with entry into a monthly prize draw to be in with a chance to win some great Avanti gear and movie vouchers.

“Participants who complete at least ten trips throughout the duration of the challenge will be entered into a star prize draw to win a state-of-the-art Avanti Explorer 8C bike kitted out with all the latest gear, as well as the latest cycle accessories.

“So log on, sign up and start enjoying the advantages of cycling your way to work in 2010,” says Mr Clark.
